The brief

Fly a Spitfire, run by the Heritage Hangar at Biggin Hill, offers pleasure flights in a Spitfire from the most famous Battle of Britain fighter base.

We were initially invited to draft a proposal for a new website with a fresh look and feel to help drive sales. The company’s old website was gallery-based and had no e-commerce functionality.

We took time to meet the entire team in the discovery process, visiting the hangar several times to ensure we captured the ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experience of flying in an iconic Spitfire. Most importantly we focused on mapping out customer journeys to simplify the website structure, letting the pleasure flight content speak for itself. The result is an intuitive design with clear calls to action.

Fully optimised for search from the outset, the website performed strongly from day one with traffic jumping 16,000% in the first 5 months. Our in-house SEO expert continues to work with Fly a Spitfire on a monthly retainer basis to keep it on top of the search results.

In addition to managing the website’s organic search, Pixel Lab also took control of its Google AdWords campaigns with dramatically positive effects. The quality of the ads was improved leading to greater conversions on a reduced ad spend. The return on investment from this alone more than covered the cost of the new website, new marketing material and the monthly agency retainer for a long time to come.
